STONY BROOK, N.Y.- Monmouth University’s women’s lacrosse team fell to 0-2 on the season after dropping a 13-0 decision to 12th-ranked Stony Brook Wednesday afternoon at LaValle Stadium.
The Seawolves built a 5-0 lead at halftime and then piled on seven more in the final 30 minutes of play to cruise to the win. Stony Brook midfielder Michelle Rubino led all scorers with four goals and seven total points. Kristin Yevoli had three goals while Seawolves Alyssa Guido, Amber Kupres and Dorrien Van Dyke each added two goals.
Yevoli got the scoring started at the 26:17 mark as five different Seawolves notched goals in the first frame as SBU went into the lockeroom up 5-0. Yevoli once again started up the scoring just 2:28 into the second half. Stony Brook added six more goals over the final 23:29 to lock up the victory.
Monmouth goaltender Katie Donohoe (Peterborough, Ontario/Holy Cross Catholic Secondary) made eight saves and allowed 12 goals in her 55:12 of work. Senior Kim McCormick (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) had two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers for the Hawks.
MU held an 8-7 advantage in draw controls with Gracie Williams (Reston, Va./Herndon) and Marial Pierce (Middleburg, Va./St. John’s Catholic Prep) leading the way with two draws apiece. Stony Brook held a 32-4 advantage in shots and went 5-of-7 on free position attempts. MU committed 25 turnovers in the setback. It was the first time in program history that Monmouth has been shutout.
The Hawks will look to break into the win column on Wednesday, February 26 at home against Lafayette.
