REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – The Monmouth University women’s golf team shot a 336 in the opening round of the 54-hole UD Lady Blue Hen Invitational, Saturday afternoon at the par-71, 5,978-yard Rehoboth Beach Country Club. Despite cold and windy conditions, senior Macy Raimo (Albany, N.Y./Colonie Central) fired a 78 to pace the Hawks, who was four holes shy of completing the second round before darkness set in forcing a suspension of play.
Raimo, who shot 38 on the front nine, earned a share of 12th overall, while classmates Michelle Rosenhouse (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) and Elizabeth Abbondandolo (Oyster Bay Cove, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) followed with an 83 and 84, respectively. Junior Ashley Navin (Ware, Mass./Quabbin Regional) notched a 91 in the opening round followed by sophomore Rebecca Gaona (Howell, N.J./Howell), who finished three shots behind to round out the Hawks’ lineup. Playing as an individual, sophomore Jessica Kavanagh (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Boro) also shot a 91 in the first 18-holes.
Delaware leads the field with a 303, two strokes in front of Rollins which occupies second. Penn’s 307 landed the Quakers in third, 11 shots in front of Towson and Central Connecticut State which share fourth. Brown earned a sixth place result with its 322, followed LIU Brooklyn (331), another Blue Hen squad (332), the Hawks and Delaware State (345).
The final round of the Blue Hen Invitational will begin Sunday morning following the conclusion of the second round.
