FIELD HOCKEY FALLS AT NO. 11 TEMPLE, 6-0
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Playing its second ranked opponent this season, the Monmouth University field hockey team fell to No. 11 Temple, 6-0, Saturday afternoon at Geasey Field. The Hawks, who concluded their four-game road trip to begin the 2013 campaign, fall to 0-4 on the year, while the Owls improve to 4-2.
The Owls were paced offensively by forward Amber Youtz who scored four goals and dished out a pair of assists. Alyssa Delp and Amanda Fuertsch each found the back of the cage once for TU. Goalkeeper Lizzy Millen turned away all four of Monmouth’s shots on cage for the shutout victory.
Monmouth’s Alex Carroll (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional) took a team-high four shots, three of which reached cage, while Trish O’Dwyer (Dublin, Ireland/Loreto Beaufort) chipped in three shots. Amanda Westerweller (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) earned the start for the Blue and White and made three saves in nearly 50 minutes of action. Teresa Mathews (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) made six saves in her season debut.
Temple outshot the Hawks 21-9, and had an 8-5 advantage in penalty corners.
Monmouth will return to action tomorrow as it welcomes Lehigh to West Long Branch at 1 p.m. in the home opener.
