WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.- Monmouth rising senior kicker Eric Spillane (Howell, N.J/Colts Neck) has been named to the College Football Football Performance Award’s preseason placekicker watch list.
Spillane, who led the Hawks in scoring with 70 points in 2012, set a number of Monmouth placekicking records last season. The three-time CFPA Watch List honoree connected on 34 PATs last season, a new Hawk record. Spillane converted 12 of 16 field goals, including a long of 43 in the season ending victory over Robert Morris. He missed one PAT all season and was a perfect five for five on two different occasions.
For his career, the Howell, N.J. native has 202 career points which is sixth all-time and is well within striking distance of No. 2 at 216 points held by current Dallas Cowboy Miles Austin. Last year, Spillane moved into first all-time in field goal attempts and made field goals. He currently ranks second in the Monmouth record book for successful PATs and PATs attempted, both records which he should take over by the end of the 2013 season.
Monmouth University begins camp on Saturday August 3, 2013 with their first contest of the 2013 season coming at Montana State on August 29.
Spillane joins running back Julian Hayes and safety Pat Gray as preseason watch list members.
