WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.- Monmouth University rising junior Julian Hayes has been named to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Watch List at the running back position for the second consecutive season.

In 2012, Hayes rushed for 659 yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging over four yards per carry in the process. He had three 100 yard games during his sophomore season, in conference wins at Wagner, Duquesne and Robert Morris. The Middletown, Conn. native was named running back performer of the week honorable mention by the CFPA after his career-high 158 yard outburst at Duquesne.

“Julian has worked hard to get him in position to be considered for the CFPA watch list,” said Head Coach Kevin Callahan. “He has been a productive in the backfield for us and we are looking forward to his performance this upcoming season.”

In two years in the Blue and White, Hayes sits in sixth all-time in rushing attempts, eighth in MU history in rushing yards with a two-year total of 1,464, and fourth all-time with 25 touchdowns. He has put together five 100 yard games and six multiple touchdown performances as a Hawk. His 14 touchdowns as a freshman rank fourth all-time in a single season at Monmouth.

Monmouth will play a 12 game independent schedule this season before joining the Big South Conference in 2014. The 2013 season opens at Montana State on August 29.
