ANNAPOLIS, Md.- The United States Naval Academy (4-0), ranked 20th in the latest IWLCA poll, cruised past Monmouth University (0-3) by a score of 16-4 Sunday afternoon at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium.

Patriot League preseason offensive player of the year Jasmine DePompeo recorded seven points, including five goals as the Midshipmen led from the opening draw to the final whistle.

The Mids Kathy Young scored two of her four goals in the first three minutes of the contest to give Navy a 2-0 lead which was pushed to 4-0 after nine minutes of play. Monmouth sophomore Karlee Dean (Medford Lakes, N.J./Shawnee) scored her first goal of the season at the 14:19 mark but the Midshipmen scored three more to take a 7-1 lead into halftime.

The momentum stayed with Navy as they scored the first nine goals of the second frame as the lead ballooned to 16-1 with just over six minutes to play. Monmouth scored three goals to end the game, including the first of the year for senior Erica Abendschoen (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) and Jennifer Graham (Delran, N.J./Holy Cross HS/Cincinnati).

Navy dominated the shots, 36-12 and led in draw controls 15-7. Monmouth committed 20 turnovers in the contest, while the Mids had 12.

MU sophomore netminder Katie Donohoe (Peterborough, Ontario/Holy Cross Catholic Seminary) had 11 saves and three ground balls. Three different Midshipmen goalies played in the contest.
