SOMERSET, N.J. - The Monmouth University women's tennis team has been picked to finish eighth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, the league office today announced. Head Coach Patrice Murray, the longest tenured coach in the conference, and the Hawks begin their spring slate at Fairfield on March 23.

Defending champion Fairleigh Dickinson earned six first-place votes to land the top spot followed by last year's runner-up Quinnipiac, which garnered two first-place nods. Bryant, which claimed the final three first place tallies, was tabbed to finish third followed by LIU Brooklyn and Sacred Heart.  Mount St. Mary's and Saint Francis (Pa.) were selected before the Blue and White, while Robert Morris, Wagner and St. Francis Brooklyn rounded out the 11-team poll.

Monmouth scored wins in the fall against future MAAC opponent Rider, 6-1, in September, while ending the fall schedule with a 4-2 victory over NEC foe Wagner. Led by senior Dana Ferrari (Saddle Brook, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy), who tied for the team lead with eight wins in 2011-12 and also led the Hawks with five wins during conference play, has earned three singles victories this season, while junior Brooke Verdiglione (Englishtown, N.J./St. John Vianney) has also claimed three singles wins.

The Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J. will once again serve as the venue for the 11-team championship from April 18-21.  The winner of the single-elimination tourney will earn the NEC's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament field.
