WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - The Northeast
Conference has announced the seedings for the 2012 NEC Men's and Women's Tennis
Championships, to be contested this Friday through Sunday at the Mercer County
Tennis Center. The Monmouth University men's tennis team is ranked third, while
the women's team took the eighth seed. The men will square off against No. 6
Saint Francis (Pa.) in the quarterfinals, no earlier than 2 p.m. Friday, while
the women face ninth-seeded Wagner in the opening round at 9 a.m.
The Hawks' men
enter the tournament at 6-11 overall and 3-3 in the league, including wins in
each of their last two NEC matches this past weekend. The women are 3-16,
though two of their victories came against their opening-round opponent.
Monmouth defeated Wagner, 6-1 twice this season, Oct. 17 in West Long Branch
and April 3 on Staten Island.
Fairleigh
Dickinson's men's and women's teams took the top seeds in both tournaments. The
Knights' men went 12-7 with an unblemished 4-0 NEC mark. Included in the FDU
men's team's overall record is an eight-match winning streak. FDU's women went
13-7 (3-2 NEC) this season. Both conference losses came without No. 1 singles
player Anna Rapoport, who has since returned to the line-up.
The reigning
champions entering the event are Sacred Heart's men and Quinnipiac's women. SHU
enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed, while the QU is seeded second.
