WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.- Monmouth University's women's tennis team nearly defeated Robert Morris Saturday afternoon, losing by a 4-3 margin to the Colonials.

Sophomore Brooke Verdiglione (Englishtown, N.J./St. John Vianney) defeated Clarissa Chen 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot while junior Dana Ferrari (Saddlebrook, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) got a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Carla Limon at the No. 4 spot to get MU two team points. Jessica Slinger's (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) 6-3, 6-0 defeat of Kourtney Passero at the finals single spot rounded out the singles victories for the Hawks.

The team doubles point was highly contested with RMU ultimately taking the point. The Hawk tandem of Ferrari and Slinger dropped a 8-6 match to RMU's Samantha Alves and Chen while Colonials Isabella Novella and Ekatrina Rudenova earned a 8-5 victory over the MU freshman duo of Sarah Turner (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) and Ashley Sandler (Jericho, N.Y./Syosset) at the third doubles slot.

With the win Robert Morris improves to 2-2 in Northeast Conference play as the Hawks fall to 3-4 in NEC play.
