WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Jason
Rothstein (Pine Brook, N.J.) and Stephen Suboleski (Sicklerville, N.J.) both
won at singles and doubles, but the Monmouth University men's tennis team was
edged by Hofstra, 4-3, Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 4-11
on the season, while Hofstra improved to 6-8.
Rothstein
and Suboleski paired to defeat Jason Sinkoff and Ryhaan Gill, 8-5, at No. 3
doubles to clinch the doubles point for the Hawks. Francis Jedlinski
(Manalapan, N.J./Freehold Township) and David Sherwood (Little Egg Harbor,
N.J./Pinelands) also defeated Antonio Pena and Matthew Gemmell, 8-1, at No. 2
doubles.
Rothstein
then blanked Gill, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 singles, before Suboleski made quick work
of Sinkoff at No. 6. But the Pride won the final four singles flights to take
the match victory.
Pena
defeated Freddy Marcinkowski (Sparta, N.J./Sparta), 0-6, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1 to
clinch the match. Ari Richman defeated Francis Jedlinski, 7-6, 6-2, at No. 2,
while Carl Jedlinski (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold Township) was defeated by Gemmell,
6-1, 7-6, at No. 3. Adrien Bailly finished off Sherwood, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 4.
The Hawks return to Northeast Conference action Saturday,
when they play host to Robert Morris. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
