- Freshman Freddy Marcinkowski (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) won at top singles, but
the Monmouth University men's tennis team fell to Saint Peter's, 6-1, in the
Hawks' spring opener Sunday afternoon at the Yanatelli Center Bubble. The match
was the Hawks' first dual action of the season, dropping them to 0-1 on the
season. Meanwhile, the Peacocks improved to 1-4.
Marcinkowski took a 6-7, 6-3, 7-5 decision over
Alex Frakes in No. 1 singles action to account for the Hawks' lone point. Tom
Kowalski (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) and Stephen Suboleski (Sicklerville, N.J.)
took a No. 3 doubles victory over Fabian Valdiviezo and Nichollas Goulart De
Lima. But the Peacocks took wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles to take the doubles
point, while earning five more points at Nos. 2-6 singles to clinch the
victory.
The Hawks return to action Friday, when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa., to take
on Lehigh. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
