EASTON, Pa.- Three Monmouth University football coaches
joined 250+ other college coaches at the Eighth Annual Lauren's First and Goal
Football Camp held at Lafayette College that helped raise $80,000 for pediatric
brain tumor research.
Monmouth Head Coach Kevin Callahan, defensive coordinator Andy Bobik and offensive
line coach Brian Gabriel represented the Hawk coaching staff at this year's
camp, which featured a record 1,800 high school student-athletes. The 2011 event set camp records for number of
players registered and camper donations.
Monmouth coaches have participated in seven out of the eight years the
camp has been held.
"We are happy to participate in Lauren's First and Goal
football camp," said Callahan. "It has
been an annual event on our summer calendar and we look forward to assisting in
this great cause each year. John Loose
should be commended for the great work that he is doing."
Loose created the camp in 2004 with his wife Marianne in honor of their 14 year
old daughter Lauren, a pediatric brain tumor survivor. This year alone, LFG has raised just under
200k with over 800k being rasied toward the fight against pediatric brain
tumors and cancer. The
camp is the primary fundraiser for Lauren´s First and Goal Foundation and all
proceeds from the event go directly to its mission of providing financial
support for brain tumor research and cancer services, offering financial and
emotional support to families living with pediatric cancer, and increasing
awareness of the disease.
"We
are so thankful to the hundreds of volunteers who dedicated their time and
efforts to make the camp a success, from the Lafayette grounds crew, to the
members of the Easton community who embrace the camp by volunteering, donating
food, services and parking spaces, to the many current and former members of
the Lafayette football team who returned to Easton to work all weekend in
setting up and assisting on the day of the camp," said LFG founder Marianne
Loose.
During
the one-day camp, players receive instruction in a variety of offensive and
defensive skills from college coaches from around the country. Almost 300
coaches representing 100 colleges and universities volunteered at the event.
In
addition to the Pennsylvania event, LFG will host its second annual Lauren´s
First and Goal Football Camp Ohio on Sunday, June 26 at Otterbein University in
Westerville, Ohio. Student-athletes can register online at http://www.laurensfirstandgoal.org/.
