Monmouth Convocation & Ribbon-Cutting Photo Gallery

Monmouth University ushered in a new era Wednesday, September 9th when University President Paul G. Gaffney II presided over a prestigious group of Monmouth County officials, members of the President's Cabinet, administrators, faculty, special guests and students in the opening convocation and ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new Multipurpose Activity Center (MAC). The ceremony marked the opening of the campus' crown jewel, state-of-the art $57 million building housing Monmouth's 19 Division I athletic programs, the Leon Hess Champions' Hall, fitness center and the University Bookstore.

In the parlance of collegiate sports, Monmouth University has also just entered the "big time", with University officials saying the new MAC will heighten the visibility of both the University's Division I athletic programs and its visibility within the Monmouth County community at large.

Located at the center of MU's campus, the 153,200 square foot Multipurpose Activity Center houses a 4,100 seat competition arena; a 200-meter; six-lane indoor track; locker rooms; educational and conference space; ground-level bookstore; and fitness center. The facility is part of Monmouth University's ten-year strategic plan to make itself more competitive in attracting students. A core element of the 2004 vision is to enhance facilities that recognize the public nature of Division I Athletics and encourage widespread participation from the campus community.
