The Monmouth University women’s basketball team plays host to perennial MAAC power Marist Saturday afternoon. The Hawks have won two straight games, the last coming at Saint Peter’s on Thursday evening. Monmouth took a 52-41 road victory on the strength of a defense that forced 27 turnovers. Meanwhile, the Red Foxes have won five straight and 15 of their last 16, including a 66-56 home win over Rider on Wednesday. SCOUTING THE MARIST RED FOXES
Madeline Blais leads the eight-time defending MAAC Champion Red Foxes at 14.4 points per game to go along with 4.5 rebounds per contest, while Preseason All-MAAC Second Team selection Leanne Ockenden has contributed 12.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.8 steals per game. Third Team pick Emma O’Connor has scored 14.2 points and grabbed 6.6 rebounds per game. Preseason All-MAAC First Teamer Casey Dulin has struggled to stay on the court with broken bones in her foot and nose in separate incidents. Nonetheless, she’s averaged 10.3 points, 4.8 assists and 4.3 rebounds in the 12 games she’s played. Sydney Coffey has also added 10.1 points and 2.8 assists per game in 20 starts for the Red Foxes.ALL-TIME SERIES VS. MARIST
Monmouth leads former, and once again, conference rival Marist, 17-14, in the all-time series. The two teams have split the last 20 meetings, during which time the Hawks have won two straight on four different occasions. Marist won four straight in the 1991-92 and 1992-93 seasons, and took the last meeting in February 1997. Monmouth and Marist have not met since the Red Foxes joined the MAAC.
