The Monmouth University women’s basketball team concludes its Western New York MAAC weekend Sunday afternoon at Niagara. The Hawks are coming off a 60-52 loss at Canisius in front of 2,196 screaming school children on Kid’s Day. Shira Shecht (10 points) led 10 Hawks in the scoring column. Niagara also fell, 74-59, to Marist on Friday. Chanel Johnson led Niagara with 18 points on 8-of-20 shooting to go along with nine rebounds.

SCOUTING THE NIAGARA PURPLE EAGLES
Chanel Johnson leads the Purple Eagles at 13.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while also dishing out 2.2 assists per game. Meghan McGuinness has also averaged 13.2 points per game, shooting 44.8 percent (47-105) from long range, while Val McQuade (10.1 ppg.) joins Johnson and McGuinness in averaging in double figures, while shooting 39.7 (29-73) from three-point range. Victoria Rampado has also made a strong contribution at 6.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Kelly Van Leeuwen has run the point to the tune of 4.1 assists per game to go along with 5.9 points per game.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. NIAGARA
Monmouth and Niagara have never met on the hardwood. Sunday’s pairing will represent the first game in the all-time series.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Shira Shecht led 10 Hawks in the scoring column with 10 points, but Monmouth fell at Canisius, 60-52, Friday morning. Jasmine Walker added nine points and seven rebounds, while Mia Hopkins scored eight points on 4-of-6 shooting. Chevannah Paalvast scored five points and grabbed seven rebounds, but also committed seven of Monmouth’s 25 turnovers on the day.
