BEDMINSTER, N.J. – The Monmouth University men’s golf team carded a 303 to earn a share of fourth place in the first round of the Barnabas Health Intercollegiate hosted by Seton Hall, held at the par-72, 7,014-yard Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club River Course. The Hawks were paced by juniors Brady Goodling (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) and Colin Buckley (Duxbury, Mass./Boston College H.S.), who each fired two-over-par 74 despite windy conditions.
Goodling and Buckley’s plus-two rounds land the juniors in 13th place in the 75-player field. Sophomore Cody Gross (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon) carded a 75 to finish third for the Blue and White, followed by classmate Kyle Deisher (Montgomery, Pa./Montgomery Area) and senior Corey Carrick (Howell, N.J./Howell) who posted rounds of 80 and 84, respectively.
Temple leads the 15-team field, turning in a 287 through the first 18-holes, followed by Minnesota four shots behind with a 291. The host Pirates sit three strokes behind the Golden Gophers in third, while the Hawks sit in a deadlock with Robert Morris in fourth. A pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) members in Iona and Saint Peter’s along with LaSalle landed in a three-way tie for sixth with a 306, while Fordham and LIU Brooklyn each recorded a 308 to share ninth. Saint Francis (Pa.) (309), Fairleigh Dickinson (311), Saint Francis Brooklyn (321), Manhattan (322) and Wagner (328) round out the team leaderboard.
The final 18-holes, the Hawks’ final round of the 2013 fall slate, tees off at 9 a.m. on Monday.
