WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Sophomore javelin thrower McLean Lipschutz earned his second Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Athlete of the Week honor of the outdoor season, conference officials announced Wednesday. It comes after Lipschutz earned MAAC Performer of the Week accolades on Tuesday.
At the Greyhound Invitational at Moravian this past weekend, Lipschutz won the javelin with a 238’ throw, beating the second place finisher by a whopping 24 feet. His mark not only cleared ECAC qualifying standards by 17 feet, it also came on his final throw of the day to jump into the lead and win the event. Currently, his mark from this past weekend is good for eighth in the nation, and is the longest throw in the MAAC this season.
On April 8, Lipschutz accomplished the same feat of winning MAAC Performer of the Week and ECAC Athlete of the Week. Lipschutz’s best javelin mark is the eighth best in the country, and Vincent DuVernois (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) also has the 12th best mark nationally to anchor the Monmouth javelin group.
This weekend, Monmouth outdoor track and field will compete in the Penn Relays as well as sending a group to participate in The Lehigh Games.
