VICTOR PUGLIESE EARNS THIRD MAAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR
EDISON, N.J. – For the third time this season, Monmouth University junior Victor Pugliese (Boulogne, France/CNED [San Diego]) has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, league officials announced Wednesday. Pugliese, who is unbeaten in his last 13 matches, closed out conference play with a three-set win in Monday’s victory over Quinnipiac.
After Pugliese, along with doubles partner Christian Vieira (Houston, Texas/Memorial), helped lead MU to the doubles point against the Bobcats with their 8-4 win at No. 1, Pugliese capped off a stellar first year in a Monmouth uniform in singles play. The junior downed Kei Ezaka, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 to finish league action with a perfect 6-0 mark. Pugliese ran his overall No. 1 dual record to 15-1 and 21-4 in singles events dating back to the fall slate.
Pugliese and the Hawks return to action this upcoming weekend as it competes in their first MAAC Tournament, held at Mercer County Park. The Blue and White, the No. 2 seed in the event, takes on No. 3 Niagara at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26th.
