BASEBALL'S JEFF SINGER NAMED ECAC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.– Lefthander Jeff Singer (Riverton, N.J./Gloucester C.C./Holy Cross) has been named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Pitcher of the Week for the Metro-Upstate region, conference officials announced late Tuesday. Singer earns his second award of the week after being named MAAC Pitcher of the Week yesterday afternoon.
Singer was inches away from perfection against Fairleigh Dickinson last Wednesday, tossing seven perfect innings and not allowing a base runner until the first batter of the eighth inning. After allowing a base hit, Singer got a pop up and a ground ball double play to face the minimum through eight, throwing only 71 pitches in the process. His final line was eight innings, one hit, no walks and five strikeouts. He faced 24 batters, and recorded 1-2-3 innings for seven straight frames. Adam Yunginger (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) came on to get the final three outs in order, and MU went 27 up, 27 down against FDU while only allowing one base runner in the 10-0 win. Singer has thrown 15 consecutive scoreless innings.
Monmouth takes on Lafayette this afternoon at Kamine Stadium, with first pitch set for 3:30 p.m.
