WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.– Sophomore javelin thrower McLean Lipschutz (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Performer of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday morning. Lipschutz earns his second MAAC weekly honors, winning Male Performer of the Week on April 8.
At the Greyhound Invitational at Moravian this past weekend, Lipschutz won the javelin with a 238’ throw, beating the second place finisher by a whopping 24 feet. His mark not only cleared ECAC qualifying standards by 17 feet, it also came on his final throw of the day to jump into the lead and win the event. Currently, his mark from this past weekend is good for eighth in the nation, and is the longest throw in the MAAC this season.
Back during the week of April 8, he was named MAAC Performer of the Week as well as ECAC Athlete of the Week. His teammate, Vincent DuVernois (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) is currently 12th in the country in the javelin, just four spots behind Lipschutz as the group paces the MU javelin throwers this outdoor season. DuVernois was named MAAC Performer of the Week in the javelin, making this the third week in a row the Monmouth javelin throwers have earned MAAC accolades.
This weekend, Monmouth outdoor track and field will compete in the Penn Relays as well as sending a group to participate in The Lehigh Games.
