DES MOINES, Iowa (June 9, 2012) - In his final collegiate appearance, Monmouth University senior standout Vincent Elardo earned Division I Honorable Mention All-American honors, finishing 23rd in the shot put at the NCAA Championships, at Drake University on Saturday.
"Vinny was hoping for more today, but he has had an amazing career and earning All-America honors is the best way to cap it off," commented head coach Joe Compagni. "He has been a great ambassador for Monmouth and our program."
Elardo, who closes his collegiate career as a two-time USA qualifier, two-time IC4A Champion, a league-record 12-time Northeast Conference Champion, a four-time NEC Field Event Athlete of the Meet, and two-time NEC MVP, claimed 23rd position with a throw of 57'11.25" (17.66 m).
Elardo is the seventh athlete to earn Division I All-America honors in track and field, joining Augie Zilincar (hammer), Jon Kalnas (shot put), Joe Madden (hammer), Bobby Smith (javelin), Tisifenee Taylor (long jump), and current MU junior Vincent DuVernois (javelin).
