DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. - The Monmouth University men's golf team erased nine shots off its opening round score to post a 309 on day two, to maintain its position in eighth place after round two of the 2012 Northeast Conference Championships at LPGA International - Legends Course, on Saturday afternoon.

"Today was moving day for us," commented head coach Dennis Shea. "We did play better, but we didn't get to move much. The team was a little more consistent today, which is a positive going into Sunday's round."

Mount St. Mary’s remained in first place after shooting a 303 on the second day of competition for a two-day total of 600. Fairleigh Dickinson sits in a tie for second (301-308 = 609) with Sacred Heart (309-300=609), which moved up two spots on the team leader board after shaving nine shots from their day one score. Saint Francis (Pa.) enters championship Sunday in fourth with a total of 614 (305-309), while LIU Brooklyn and Central Connecticut are tied for fifth after they both inked identical day two scores of 304 for a two-day total of 618. (345-343= 688) finish the second round in ninth and tenth, respectively.

Sacred Heart’s, Leo Garcia paced the individual field for the second day in a row after shooting his second even par round (72) of the tournament, one shot in front of Kevin Ellison of Mount St. Mary's.

Following day two, Monmouth was paced by junior Ian Thimble (Hyde Park, Mass./Boston College H.S.), who is tied with CCSU’s Dan Fanion for fifth place with two-day scores of 150.

Freshman Brady Goodling (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) posted a second-day 80 to total 157 after 36 holes and stand in 24th place, while sophomore Corey Carrick (Howell, N.J./Howell) shaved nine strokes off his day one total (84-75=159) to move up 10 spots to 32nd position.
