LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Led by junior Kelsi Kavanagh's sixth place finish, the Monmouth University women's golf team claimed fourth place at the 2012 Hawk Invitational with a two-round total of 652 at Eagle Ridge Golf Club on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks, who trimmed 14 strokes off their first day total to shoot 319 on day two, finished nine shots behind third place Fairleigh Dickinson.

Kavanagh, who tied her career-best round with a second-day 77, finished in a tie for sixth place as an individual to pace the Blue and White with a 156, seven strokes behind tournament medalist Annika Karlsson (74-75=149) from Fairleigh Dickinson, who bested Hofstra's Jenna Masnyk (75-79=154) by five shots.

Fellow Northeast Conference member LIU Brooklyn took home team honors from the two-day competition, carding the best round on each day (317-311) to register a 628, five shots ahead of Hofstra (321-312=633) and 15 shots clear of FDU (322-321=643). The Hawks, who had the third lowest round in the field on day two, finished with a 652, while Hartford came in fifth behind its 674. Wagner (706), Quinnipiac (719), St. Francis (745) and Holy Cross (764) rounded out the field.

Following Kavanagh into the clubhouse for the Hawks was sophomore Michelle Rosenhouse, who finished in a tie for 12th place after her two-day total of 163 (82-81), while sophomore Macy Raimo (85-79) climbed into 14th position after trimming six strokes off her score on day two to finish with a 164.

Junior Rachel Werner erased five shots off her first round total to finish in 19th place overall (87-82) with a 169, while sophomore Elizabeth Abbondandolo (87-84) claimed 21st place with a 171.

Competing as individuals, freshman Ashley Navin carded a 94 on day two, 10 shots better than her first round score, to finish in 40th place with a 198, and senior Alyse Casale claimed 43rd position (104-100) with a 204.

Monmouth, which had all seven of its players shoot lower scores on day two than day one at the Hawk Invitational, returns to action on April 15-17, when the Blue and White compete in the Hartford Invitational at Rockledge G.C. in West Hartford, Connecticut.
